AI Tinker Lab

This is a selection of experiments I’m doing with AI Art. It is envisioned as a play space or sandbox. On to the Tinkering!

Tales of the Uncanny!

Using Claude and Midjourney, I created an interactive graphic novel

discussing Freud’s “The Uncanny” and some of the thoughts I explore in my recent paper on AI.

AI Art from Midjourney

AI Music produced by Suno under the Artist Name Target Praxis. All music is AI generated, all lyrics other than public domain text from Freud (Sigmund and Anna) or the DSM V are written by me.

I encourage you to share with me the understanding that such play with AI has serious stakes for artists, the environment, and marginalized groups. In order to counteract/mitigate that in part, I encourage visitors to engage with the following thinkers, groups and sites:

Justice AI GPT

This AI created by Christian Ortiz is “a structural redesign of how AI systems are built, governed, and held accountable. JAI is programmed with the world’s first Decolonial Dataset.”

Graphic Artists’ Guild

This group actively lobbies and educates the public about the need to support human artists in the face of generative AI.

Human Artistry Campaign

Group advocating for “Core Principles for Artificial Intelligence Applications in support of human creativity & accomplishment.”

The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP)

ASCAP is a not-for-profit, member-owned performance rights organization (PRO) in the U.S. that ensures songwriters, composers, and music publishers get paid royalties when their music is played publicly. They are actively engaged in PAC work to protect musicians and another artists from training models that use their work without consent or compensation.

Algorithm Watch’s How To Resist Data Centers: A Guide For Local Communities In Europe

This thoughtful post has “compiled a set of practical steps that communities can take to educate themselves when a data center is planned in their area, and to address its potential impacts.”

In the U.S. a wide range of groups, from The National Wildlife Federation to the NAACP to Food And Water Watch are also advocating for protections against the environmental impacts of AI.
